The output price index for home sales of manufactured products rose 7.5 per cent in the year to April, compared with the rise of 6.5 per cent in the year to March. Unadjusted, the index rose 1.4 per cent between March and April, mainly reflecting rises in other manufactured product prices. If passed on in full, the changes in excise duty on tobacco and alcohol announced in the Budget would have increased the index by 0.3 per cent in April. The output price index excluding excise duties (PPIY) rose 7.7 per cent in the year to April. Seasonally adjusted, the index rose 1.0 per cent between March and April.
Input prices: summary
The input price index for materials and fuels purchased by manufacturing industry rose 23.3 per cent in the year to April and rose 2.6 per cent between March and April. The rise in the input index between March and April mainly reflected a rise in the price of crude oil. Prices of imported materials as a whole (including imported crude oil) rose 2.4 per cent between March and April.
Seasonally adjusted, the input price index rose 2.4 per cent between March and April. The input price index for manufacturing industry excluding the food, beverages, tobacco and petroleum industries rose 12.6 per cent in the year to April. Seasonally adjusted, the index rose 2.2 per cent between March and April.
